For a long time, our Director General Kevin Cunnington and the GDS Academy team have been keen to run pop up Academy courses in the Midlands.
So we were delighted to be invited to speak about digital skills at the recent Public Sector Digital Midlands event in Birmingham on 27 September, alongside a great range of speakers including Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands.
At the event, Kevin announced the GDS Academy would be ‘popping up’ in Birmingham and the first taster courses will take place before Christmas.
The Academy also had a stand at the event and we were overwhelmed by the warm reception and enthusiasm from everyone who came to talk to us following our announcement.
We have received great feedback from our appearance at @psdmidlands yesterday where we talked about pop up #GDSAcademy classes in the Midlands. Thank you all who came to speak to us afterwards and sent us your requests this morning. #PSDMidlands #SmarterGov pic.twitter.com/0gLfKIWDr4

How to register
If you are based in the Midlands and would like to register on any of the courses, please first visit the course pages and read the details to ensure it is right for you and you have the necessary approvals to register.
Then email gds.academy@digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk with ‘Midlands Event - request for a place’ in the subject line. Please include your name, department, job role, contact details and details of which course you would like to attend.
How to register for a different course
If you’re based in the Midlands and would like to attend a course that is not currently offered, email gds.academy@digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk with ‘Midlands Event - request for a course’ in the subject line.
This will help us get a better idea of demand for courses in your area. If we receive enough requests for a specific course, we can plan to deliver this course in Birmingham.
